Frequently Asked Questions

  • Spiritual direction is both a relationship and a space:

It’s a relationship entered into intentionally by both the spiritual director and the person seeking to be companioned in their spiritual journey, and it’s a protected time and space for connecting with the Divine and with yourself in a held container that is safe for exploration, questioning, wondering, and clarifying.

Some things spiritual direction is not:

-It’s not counseling, and it’s not meant or intended to treat or cure any kind of ailment. I’ll refer you to a counselor for mental and emotional health support when it’s warranted. It can be done concurrently with spiritual direction, however.

-It’s not me “directing” you in a prescriptive way. It’s about me being available to companion you along your own spiritual journey as you feel led and directed.

-It’s not something you have to be explicitly Christian, religious, or certain in your faith identity to do. I see people who are interested in growing in their spiritual life, including those who identify as atheist, agnostic, any religion or faith background.

-It’s not a time where you’ll be asked or coerced to change your beliefs. I’m not here to change you. The companioning is my work, but the growth, the change, the direction, the awareness, the meaning making, and the decisions are yours.

  • Dream work is the process of listening for and to the wisdom of your dreams. It can help you grow in self-awareness, your understanding of relationships and others, and be a spiritual discipline that helps you connect with the Holy One.

  • You bring what you need and want to work on and discuss to each session. I companion you through what you bring, but the agenda is yours to initiate. In many ways, as long as we’re staying in the realm of your spiritual well-being, however you define that, sessions are choose-your-own-adventure, and I’ll companion you along for the ride.

Topics that I’m required to disclose to the appropriate authorities include any action or anything that poses a threat to yourself or to others, including but not limited to abuse, neglect, criminal activity, and plans for self-harm. Otherwise, you can expect confidentiality in the space we hold together.

  • I open each session with an intentional opening, and typically I’ll give you some choices about what would be most meaningful: a time of silence or prayer, a reading, naming a word that describes how you’re entering the space, etc.

Then, I’ll invite you to share and you’ll begin sharing what you’d like to discuss during our time together.

I’ll offer reflections, wonderings, images, and resources throughout our session, which is something I’ll tailor to your needs, especially as we get to know one another over time.

At the 50 minute mark, I’ll gently note the time and bring our session to a close and offer a closing to our time together, which could be asking about a word you’ll carry with you or noting a theme I heard, and I’ll ask if you’d like to schedule another time to meet. If you’d like, we can go ahead and schedule another time to meet, but as always, there’s no pressure and you take the lead.

  • I’ll be able to lead 1:1 dream work sessions beginning in March 2027. Stay tuned for more on this as I complete my certificate program at the Haden Institute!

  • Group dream work is also known as “dream groups,” and they’re done in groups ranging in size from 3-7. A typical session involves check ins, an opening to center us, a volunteer sharing a dream and giving permission for the group to project onto it with the purpose of each person leaving with wisdom for their own lives, not to help the individual sharing (although that’s often a secondary result to this process), sharing after, and a closing moment. I’ll often lead these groups in “seasons,” of a certain amount of weeks, and they may have a particular topic or approach to individual sessions if so. If there’s interest, I’ll also lead an ongoing group.

Group spiritual direction is a similar approach to dream groups in that each person comes seeking their own healing and wholeness and the conversation is the vehicle for growth. I’ll have an opening moment after check ins, I’ll introduce a topic for the day or I may let the group offer the starting point depending on the day, and then I’ll close us with a closing or sending moment. I offer this in “seasons” as well, but if there’s interest, can have an ongoing group as well.

  • This is such an important question, and one that can feel uncomfortable for so many of us. So, rest assured, I will never be offended if you need to stop sessions for any reason.

You can let me know at the end of a session that you need or want to pause or stop our sessions, and I’ll be responsive to your needs. If we’re in the middle of a series of sessions, group or 1:1, I will refund you 75% for sessions not participated in, since a spot was unavailable for another.

I’m also glad to work with you to try and reschedule sessions due to unforeseen illness or other emergencies.

If you miss a session (no call/no show), without at least 24 hours notice, for a non-emergent reason, I will still invoice for the session as I’ve reserved the time in my calendar. Thank you for your understanding.

There also may be a situation where I decide, either alongside you or using my professional judgment, that we need to dissolve our relationship. If this happens, refunds will be determined on a case-by-case basis at my discretion. These situations are rare, but they are important to note so that both parties are safe and well-supported
